Super Deluxe Movie Review
The title ‘Super Deluxe’ and its enriched star-cast tagged along with top-notch technicians was more than enough factor to keep us all hooked on. Yes, filmmaker Thiyagarajan Kumararaja hadn’t filled us with over expectations. We were all pretty sure that it’s not going to be a routine commercial entertainer, instead were prepared in prior in accordance to the director’s erstwhile outing ‘Aaranya Kaandam’.
Set against the backdrops of 24 hours, the film interweaves multiple stories together and what happens in the lives of these characters within this time. A transgender and conflicts with his family and society, a pathetic and ugliest situation for a married couple, the conflict between a former porn artiste and her estranged husband over the life of their son, group of teens wedged into a complicated chain of mishaps.
If you’re looking for the minutest details of analysis on Super Deluxe, it could run into monstrous words. Instead, we would like to keep it short and simple. The brilliant points of Super Deluxe are strong characterizations, dialogues; Yuvan Shankar Raja’s overpowering BGM, cinematography and first half. But the entire bunch of positive elements has a counterpart with the flip side, which is second hour. Of course, all scenes in the second hour look important and nothing could be deleted, but the length of the scenes could have been trimmed. Apparently, this would have lessened the duration keeping it more intact.
Fahadh Faasil tops the list of performers with an effortless and intriguing performance. Samantha gives her best and this is one of the best films till the date. Vijay Sethupathi gives an average show. He gets perfect makeovers when attempting roles as in Seethakaathi and this film, but it’s hard to find him excel with body language and dialogue deliveries. Ramya Krishnan deserves special credits for boldly taking up such a role. Mysskin is outstanding with his performance.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score keeps escalating every scene with best outputs. His innovative appeal with Nathaswaram and unimaginably creative instrumentals in unique situations are colossal. With lots of cinematographers being a part of this film, it’s a visual celebration throughout the film.
